About Me
Hello there! My name is James McDonald and I've been animating since I was in primary school! Born and raised in High Wycombe and now living in Bristol, I'm in my late twenties and in the summer of 2020 I graduated from the Bristol School of Animation at UWE (University of the West of England) with a First Class Honours Degree in Animation. I was also President of the UWE Animation Society.

Since graduating, I have spent my professional time split between working as a contracted Compositor & Junior Editor for Sun & Moon Animation across 4 projects, including the award winning Maddie & Triggs, and completing freelance work for a number of clients including Bristol Pride, the Somerset Football Association, and the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe.

Outside of animation and design work, my passions include swimming; designing and playing Dungeons & Dragons campaigns; Queer Literature; Urban Design; Science Fiction (Notably Doctor Who); and Musical Theatre

Animation Work
A range of disciplines:

The Space Bar
The Space Bar has been my primary source of attention for the past year and a half. It's an idea for a TV Series that I've had for a number of years and have been working to develop a pilot for, which I aspire to be able to pitch to studios eventually.

Colourtoo
This was a film I worked on in a team of 4 during University. The objective of the module was to make a 30-60s short film suitable for a pre-school audience (2-5 Years Old). I wrote the script and took on the role of director of this project, as well as animating a large portion of it.

Bristol Pride
I was thrilled when I got asked to work on this exciting project. As an LGBT+ Identifying Individual, I was eager to work on such a worthwhile cause. It allowed me to improve my knowledge and skills in motion graphics in order to create a dynamic result I’m really proud of. I produced a number of final products ranging in style, length and aspect ratio to suit several uses.

Hopefully, with art, we can bridge these gaps.
